In amplification of the new vehicle sales statistics for the month of April, 2012 – released today by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) – the Association commented that, despite the high number and configuration of public holidays during the month, new car and commercial vehicle sales had registered relatively strong gains compared to the corresponding month last year. Aggregate Industry sales had improved by 4 034 units or 10.5% to 42 617 vehicles from 38 583 units in April last year well above the growth rate in Industry total sales of 6.9% for the four months of the year.
In amplification of the new vehicle sales statistics for the month of March, 2012 – released today by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) – the Association commented that overall new car and commercial vehicle sales for the month had registered modest gains compared to the corresponding month last year. Aggregate Industry sales had improved by 2 552 units or 4.8% to 56 110 vehicles from 53 558 units in March last year. However, new car sales in particular had registered relatively strong gains.
In amplification of the new vehicle sales statistics for the month of February, 2012 – released today by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) – the Association commented that new car and commercial vehicle sales for the month had registered modest gains compared to the corresponding month last year. Aggregate Industry sales had improved by 3 159 units or 6.4% to 52 356 vehicles from 49 197 units in February last year.
Commenting on the budget proposals announced today by the Minister of Finance, Mr Pravin Gordhan, in Parliament – the President of the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) – Mr David Powels said that against the background of slower growth in the domestic economy and an uncertain and challenging global economic outlook – the Minister had tabled an appropriate and disciplined set of budget proposals intended to support growth, employment and poverty alleviation through targeted interventions.

As a result of a global directive by parent company Daimler AG (Germany), Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) is precluded from reporting detailed, disaggregated sales data for the time being. The company will, however, provide a single total sales number for passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

Despite the fact that detailed sales of Mercedes-Benz vehicles were not reported during December, 2011 - new vehicle sales ended the year 2011 on a relatively buoyant note with aggregate industry new vehicle sales at 43 790 units recording an improvement of 4 335 vehicles or a gain of 11% compared to the total new vehicle sales of 39 455 units (inclusive of Mercedes-Benz sales) during the corresponding month of December 2010.
