Hard work, the kind of love many couples dream of, and a weekend full of surprises led to a brand-new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross dubbed “Ruby” to be delivered just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Tanya Parsons, a business owner from the East Rand in Gauteng, received her Red Diamond Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross on the eve of Valentine’s Day after she and her husband started planning their purchase in November last year, but the handover before Valentine’s Day was “a complete surprise”.
“We run the Aesthetic Laser Academy in Boksburg, our hometown, and my husband said because I work so hard, I deserve a new car,” explains Tanya. At the time, she was driving a small hatch she bought five years earlier as a used car.
“We started looking around for a new car. After doing a lot of research on the internet, one Friday evening long after business hours, Nkosi Masuku of Mitsubishi Motors The Glen replied with answers to all my questions about the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. We were looking at both the 1.5-litre petrol turbo as well as the 2.0-litre petrol, and after a quick test drive a few days later we paid a deposit based on the Black Friday special offer Mitsubishi Motors ran back then,” recalls Tanya. “Nkosi sent pictures, specs and a colour chart, and after seeing the car in the flesh, I chose the Diamond Red version.”
Working towards getting together the balance after the deposit, Tanya never thought the car would be hers soon.
“On Friday (12 February) we had to attend a ceremony at my daughter’s school when she was inaugurated as leader at Sonneveld Akademie in Brakpan.
“My husband, Lucas, said we should take his car as he was planning to take us out for breakfast to celebrate Anzel’s inauguration. But he had a card or two up his sleeve,” said Tanya.
Lucas took her to Mitsubishi Motors The Glen under the pretence that he wanted to go check on some detail about the car.
Nkosi was waiting for them, with Tanya’s new car parked in the showroom with a massive red ribbon and a bouquet of red flowers.
The family, who lives in Germiston, spent the weekend on the road.
“I immediately christened my car ‘Ruby’, and we took her out on Valentine’s day on a 300 km trip. She has already been on a dirt road and the open road, and had to dodge a few potholes as well, but passed the test with flying colours!”
According to Tanya, Nkosi went out of his way to help her husband surprise her. “He is not a salesman; he should be in customer care – he has passion for his job and knows how to look after customers!”
The Eclipse Cross has a higher ground clearance and is easy to climb in and out. It also has enough open space around the handbrake lever so that I can easily operate it.
“Ruby is my first new car. I have always driven smaller cars, mostly hatchbacks, but wanted a small SUV. I love the shape and the wing on the back window, and the rear-view camera makes it easy to park. I absolutely love it!”
