This transport month webinar aims to create an awareness of the ISO 39001 Road Traffic Safety Standard

The main objective of the SANS/ISO 39001 Road Traffic Safety (RTS) management system standard is the elimination or minimization of fatalities and serious injuries on our road networks.

Globally, road crashes result in approximately 1.3 million fatalities annually and in South Africa the figure is approximately 14000.  It in indeed a sobering and sad reality that so many lives are lost on our roads. It will take  concerted and consistent efforts and a multi-pronged approach to stem the tide. There is clearly no “silver bullet” solution; rather it will require various mechanisms, shared responsibility and "everyone doing their little bit in their space" that can lead to safer roads.

The ISO 39001 standard represents one such mechanism that provides an international best-practice framework for identifying and managing road safety risks.

This ISO 39001 webinar will facilitate an interpretation of the standard in a practical manner so that the various road traffic stakeholders will understand what is required for implementation in the context of the different environments.
