On Friday 5 April 2024, the Free Market Foundation (FMF) kicked off a roadshow in the buildup to the launch of its Campaign for Home Rule, which will take place in Cape Town on 11 April 2024.
The roadshow aims to highlight the urgent need for more authority to be given to provincial and local governments, and to organised communities and business.
FMF CEO, David Ansara, and Head of Policy, Martin van Staden, will travel from Gqeberha, and will be stopping at Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, George, Hermanus, and Paarl, before ending in Cape Town.
The roadshow will comprise a series of events and engagements at each location.
The FMF will promote the view that the most relevant decisions of governance must be taken by those most affected. This would usually be municipal governments and even more local, non-political communities, followed by provincial support and coordination mechanisms.
We believe that South Africa’s crises are caused by bad policy that emanates from the central government. Voters in the provinces and municipalities have a negligible say in how they are governed, despite South Africa’s formally federal constitution.
