Put Liberty First: GNU must prioritise free trade to boost economic growth

Tomorrow, Tuesday, 22 October, at 11h00, the Free Market Foundation (FMF) will host an online briefing during which it will unpack its latest paper entitled: ‘Freedom to Trade Internationally’, by Dr Morné Malan, Deputy Head of Policy at the FMF.

The event marks the first instalment in a series of five online briefings, during which leading thinkers at the FMF, who are experts in their fields, will unpack solutions to South Africa’s most pertinent socio-economic challenges.

“If we hope to address South Africa’s persistent economic malaise and the pernicious impact which it has had on the impoverished and chronically unemployed, we must be willing to and capable of reaping the manifold benefits of international trade”, said Dr Malan.

“This policy paper provides recommendations to policymakers in South Africa’s post-2024 government of national unity which would enable greater freedom to trade – thereby enhancing productivity, boosting economic growth and ultimately reducing both the breadth as well as the depth of poverty and unemployment in South Africa” he added.

Members of the media are invited to attend the online briefing, which will commence as follows:
