South Africa marked Youth Day on 16 June, commemorating the courage of the young students who, in 1976, stood up against oppression in Soweto and helped shape the democratic nation we live in today.

Their legacy continues to serve as a powerful reminder of the vital role young people play in driving progress, innovation, and long-term sustainability across all sectors of society. 

At FAW Trucks Southern Africa, Youth Day provided an opportunity to reflect on how the organisation nurtures emerging talent while supporting the broader wellbeing of its people. Central to this approach is the belief that a strong, supportive workplace culture functions much like a village. As the African proverb reminds us, “it takes a village to raise a child” and similarly, it takes a village to build and sustain a resilient, high-performing business.

Across the organisation, many team members are not only employees, but also parents, caregivers, and active participants in their communities.
