Signature Motorsport ready to apply MINI magic at Aldo Scribante

Preview: Sasol GTC2 Championship – Rd 5, Port Elizabeth, 14th July

The Sasol GTC2 Championship heads into the season mid-point with Brad Liebenberg lying second in the title race, two points ahead of Devin Robertson following the Champion MINI John Cooper Works driver’s maiden win last month.

Brad, racing his Ferodo-backed MINI John Cooper Works, has racked up two victories and two additional podium finishes so far, while adding valuable points in every other race, testament to the MINI’s reliability. Devin’s MINI has also finished every race in the points, carrying its driver to a win and three podium places along the way.

With a newly re-surfaced Aldo Scribante racetrack in prospect, both drivers are looking forward to a pair of fast, competitive and fun races that will entertain the spectators on the day. With worries about tyre wear consigned to the history books, the team can look forward to more on-track time to find a competitive set-up.

“The MINI is suited to Aldo Scribante”, said Brad. “It has a good combination of fast and slow corners which I enjoy. I don’t think the new surface will be much of an issue as the conditions are the same for everyone. I’m looking forward to a good comeback weekend after my last race in East London. Second to fourth places in the championship are stupidly close, with three points separating myself, Devin and Trevor (Bland)”.

Aware that the pressure will be on in Port Elizabeth after the Champion MINI John Cooper Works won at the same circuit last year. Devin is going all out to bank another victory. “It will be great not to have to worry about tyre wear anymore. Previously, the tyres were past their best after two laps, so that is a big plus point. I can focus on my race settings during free practice without any worries about using up my tyre supply. Keagan (Masters) is obviously the target and if I can take points away from him I will be happy. I am expecting a stronger second half to my season as this will be the last circuit that I have yet to race on in GTC2”.

Qualifying gets underway at 09.15 on Saturday with the day’s first race scheduled for 12h40. Race two, from an inverted grid, gets underway at 15h10.

Signature Motorsport welcomes race fans to their pit to see the cars and meet the drivers between their racing activities.
