Signature Motorsport MINI team heading to happy place for GTC2 finale

Preview: Sasol GTC2 Championship – Zwartkops Raceway, 20th October

Signature Motorsport heads into the ninth and final round of the Sasol GTC2 Championship at Zwartkops Raceway, the team’s ‘happy place’ given their record at the Pretoria circuit over the past two seasons. Holding second and third places in the championship standings, the pair of MINI John Cooper Works drivers is aiming to end the year on a high note by adding to their six wins and 11 podium results so far.

Devin Robertson, second on the points table and one of only two drivers to score points in every race this year, is targeting a repeat result of his East London campaign where he won his maiden GTC2 race and claimed a second place finish in the day’s second race. The Champion MINI driver and his team will be working hard to close the season in a good way.

“We know the car works well at Zwartkops which gives us a bit of a head start. Although the championship is a long shot, stranger things have happened in motorsport. I will be fighting hard and give my best on the day and see where we end up. The car handles well and the engine is strong so the package is in place; it will be up to me to get the best out of it,” said Robertson.

Brad Liebenberg has powered his Ferodo MINI John Cooper Works to four victories and four podiums and lies in third place in the standings. Aiming to put his Cape Town non-finish disappointment behind him, Liebenberg is happy to be ending the season at his favourite hunting ground.

“The team has produced good results at Zwartkops; there are no long straights and it’s not really a power-hungry track. There is no reason why we cannot get back into the winning groove. We test a lot at the track so our basic set-up is known so we can focus on maximizing our whole package. We can gauge what we can expect so I’m really excited to end the season at Zwartkops”, said Liebenberg.

Official qualifying to determine the starting grid for race one starts at 8.40am; the fan grid walk takes place at noon, ahead of race one at 12.10pm. The second race, from an inverted grid, is scheduled to start at 15h35.
