A total of 7 championship points separate the leaders in 3 classes!

Gauteng’s Dunlop-shod Northern Regions Extreme Festival championships are all headed for epic conclusions, if the action at Zwartkops spring celebration 2026 Northern Regions Extreme Festival was anything to go by over the past weekend. If you add the points differences up between the top two in the BMW M Performance Parts, Dunlop V8 Supercars and ATE VW Challenge, there’s just seven points between the lot of them. And while the DOE Formula Vee once seemed all over bar the shouting, the fat lady is nowhere to arriving to sing there, either.

Late starter Lee Thompson continued the BMW M Performance Series Turbo comeback with another double win off his Dunlop Pole Position, with leader Anton Pommersheim second each time. Which means that Lee took another seven points out of Anton to close the deficit down to just five points with three rounds left to race. Behind them, Ethan Coetzee and Reiner Smith shared the B wins while Nicky Dicks won twice in C. Andre van Vuuren and Bernard de Gouveia shared the Normally Aspirated race wins while Ruhan van der Walt and Claudio Jardim took turns in Class C wins and lady racer Chloe Stuart and Trent Williams shared the Class D honours.

Warren Lombard and his Mustang took the Dunlop Pole Position money in the V8 Supercars before clearing off to the opening race. He left close championship rivals Thomas Reib’s Corvette to pass Terry Wilford’s Mustang. Wilford then took no prisoners as he sped from behind to take the second reverse grid race from Lombard. After Reib went off. Sam Dahl GT2 winner Wayne Spicer and Vic Dias followed in race 1, before Dias put it on the podium from Alan Ryan and Spicer in heat 2. Which leaves Lombard a point clear of Wilford with Reib needing to repair some damage a little further back.

It was all about Class A man and Dunlop pole winner Anthony Lessing, B lad Keegan Nathan, and Class C winner Bryce Pillay in an ATE VW Challenge day of domination. All stormed to double lights to flag wins off pole. Chris Tait and Francis Aldrich completed the race 1 podium with Tait second from Josh Moore in the second. Nathan left Anthony Bouillart, Keyaan Dwomoh and Max Corbett to fight over the B places. And Pillay fended Elna Croeser and Stuart Konig off in C. So Lessing is now a point clear of Moore and Tait four further back in A, six points split Bouilliart, Dwomoh and Nathan in B. And Pillay two clear of Stuart Konig in C. How close is that!

Ever improving teammates MD Bester took a surprise DOE Formula Vee Dunlop pole award from Kyle Watt before Bester took race 1 from Watt, Peter Hills, And Shaun van der Linde. The second race red-flagged after Bester, Peter Hills, and Vermaak, among others, were eliminated to leave Watt to win from van der Linde, Schriks, Vaughn Hills and log leader Lendl Jansen. Which means the Vee is also now super tight as Peter Hills and Watt close down on Jensen, who’s somehow managed to keep the gap back to Vaughn Hills to 18 points. But with 84 points still on the table, that’s no guarantee.
